this is purely a creative writing exercise do not take this seriously ok thank you
i was having a conversation with a friend over a brief brunch today, and by brunch i mean that he was eating dining hall slop and i was eating a mcchicken that i couldn’t bring myself to chomp down the night before. it was a very chill setting, and i happened to come up to him and sit down for like an hour purely because i couldn’t find where i left the wrapped mcchicken the night before. as it turns out, it was sitting on top of our dorm’s dining table, so i took it as an invitation to just sit down and enjoy the food with him. sometimes i’m glad that mcdonald’s fills their food with a lot of preservatives, because this sandwich was completely intact for me to enjoy despite the fact that i did not refrigerate it whatsoever.
at some point in our delightful conversation we started talking about the messiness that we have subjected ourselves to over the course of our college career. i think that there’s something about putting a bunch of young, impressionable adults together in the middle of a remote place in western mass that really makes the dramaturge inside of us shine. the reason this topic even came up was because he was talking about the date that he had scheduled for later that day. it was obvious that he had the biggest crush ever on her. he started talking about all the subtly romantic actions that he was going to do during the date, and me being the woman in this situation it genuinely checked out as him being a well-intentioned man. i started giggling a little bit because to be honest this was really smooth. i said that i never thought anyone in our friend group could be this smooth, and then he said that he thought i was the smoothest of the bunch.
me? smooth? are you kidding? i mean, don’t get me wrong, i’ve had my fair share of experiences, but i wouldn’t say that i was ever smooth per-se.
very quickly i had found the perfect person to spill all the nonsensical messiness that i’ve been through during these last few years, and not just for a visceral sake, but rather for me to try and bring out the good that comes from having been through so much nonsense.
